In Puerto Vallarta, you can be as busy as you want to be. 

You can venture out on your own and never get bored, you can hang out on the beach (or at the pool), explore on your own or enjoy some of the many tours Puerto Vallarta has to offer.

• Vallarta Adventures offers high end and the highest quality tours in PV. Check their website for special discounts available and during high season we strongly recommend that you book your tours in advance. Among our favorites: Rhythms of the Night, Luxury Sailing and their trip to Yelapa.

• Puerto Vallarta Tours provides outstanding tours for the more budget-minded individuals. We have had outstanding experiences with them. You can see a full list of their offerings at their website here. We have particularly enjoyed their sailing trips. (Note: Pay careful attention to the type of sailing trip you book. Some of the "booze cruises" are on larger vessels that feature huge crowds, unlimited alcohol and lots of sun. Not our cup of tea, but some may enjoy it...).

• Los Veranos Canopy Tours offer PV's oldest and most authentic ziplining experience.They offer more than two miles of cable in a series of 14 zip lines, many over 1100 feet long and over 100 meters high. For further information, visit their website here.

• Food Tours are becoming increasingly popular in Puerto Vallarta. Admittedly, we're always on a diet so we've never tried one, but here are some of the more popular offerings: Vallarta Eats Food Tours and Vallarta Food Tours.

• Vallarta Botanical Garden is a favorite among tourists and ex pats who live in PV. Visit their website here for information about how to get to the gardens and what to bring. One of the hidden gems of the Gardens is their restaurant which offers an outstanding lunch and cocktail menu.

• The Malecón is alive with action morning, noon and night. Early in the morning, it's busy with joggers, walkers and folks walking dogs. Later in the morning and during the afternoons, you'll see folks strolling the Malecón and stopping to shoot photos of the bronze statues and sand sculptures along the way. And there are some lovely cafes that offer a delicious coffee, gentle lunch of fabulous dinner. In the evenings, you will see the Malecón come alive with musicians and performances. Sunday nights are especially special as the locals come out to celebrate in a festive atmosphere.

• Yelapa is a magical spot that's best reached by boat. You can visit Yelapa on a tour or by taking one of the water taxis that leaves from the Pier near Vista del Sol. We recommend you take an early boat (it takes about 90 minutes to reach Yelapa) and come back in the afternoon. This is one the top ten of our list of things to do in Puerto Vallarta.
